It's been a while since we posted about children's lighting. Especially ceiling lights.
And that's mainly because it's quite a tricky one. Personally, we tend to prefer simple to fussy - plain shades (big is always good) that co-ordinate or contrast with your chosen colour theme without distracting from the rest of the room.
However, if you're looking to create a bit of a statement from the ceiling whilst injecting a burst of colour and energy to the room, then take a look at these fabulous blown glass 'Memory Balloon Lights', designed in Scotland by John Moncrieff and available at Notonthehighstreet.com. They come in eight bright and beautiful, glossy colours, including red, yellow and green (above), as well as blue, turquoise, orange, grey and opal.
Choose from 3 sizes - small (25cm diameter), medium (30cm) or large (40cm). Or how about mixing and matching a couple of different colours and sizes to hang above a special corner of the room, to set the scene for a fun little play area or cosy reading nook?
The lights require a standard bulb (not included) and are simple to fit and hang using a ceiling plate that is screwed to the ceiling. Cost depends on size, but the smallest balloon light starts at £140.
Children will love the bright colours - and of course, the fact that it's a balloon (that will never go pop). Parents will adore the simplicity of the design whilst being drawn to the nostalgia it evokes.
Such a simple yet clever design with a magical appeal to all ages.
