As colouring books go, this one by Johanna Basford is pretty special.
Aptly named "Secret Garden", it is brimming with beautifully-detailed, hand-drawn, pen and ink illustrations of flowers, insects, birds and tiny creatures in black and white - just waiting to be discovered and brought to life in colour.
Children will adore exploring each little detail within the 63 different illustrations and personalising them through ink and colour (and for the mini-perfectionists-in-the-making, colouring them in neatly!) Certain pages of the garden have even been left for completion by the artist him/herself - a true test of imagination and creativity if ever there was one!
Inspired by her childhood summer holidays spent with her Grandfather, who was the Head Gardener at Brodick Castle on the Isle of Arran in Scotland, Johanna fondly remembers her days spent exploring the rambling grounds of the castle gardens. Now living in rural Scotland, she takes her inspiration from her passion from the countryside surrounding her home.
